After discovering the remains of 215 children at the former Kamloops Indian Residential School, protest by and for indigenous peoples reignited. The statue was removed on June 18, 2021, after the City Council in Kingston, Ontario voted 12-1 to remove this statue from City Park.

A few days later, the statue was vandalized with white supremacist graffiti which was later altered to anti-racist statements.
