2020.08.29 Sir John A. Macdonald
Montreal, Quebec, Canada
Macdonald was the first Prime Minister of Canada and played a significant role in the development of the residential school system through his commission of the 1879 Report on Industrial Schools for Indians and Half Breeds. The report and subsequent action was, in part, inspired by the aggressive assimilation campaign in the US which was led by then President Grant.
